Sergeant Frank P. Tona

Bio

Frank P. Tona is currently a sergeant with the Charles County, Maryland, Sheriff’s Office where he has worked since 2002. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service police agency that serves about 170,000 residents in southern Maryland. The county is 25 miles south of Washington, DC, and 60 miles south of Baltimore, Maryland.

Sergeant Tona is assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division where he supervises the Robbery Unit and has collateral duties as team leader of the Crisis Negotiations Team, and manages his agency’s Cold Case Initiative. He began his career in the Patrol Division and was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division. While assigned as a detective, he worked cases in the Financial Crimes Unit, Special Victims Unit, Robbery Unit, and Major Crimes Unit. In 2015, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and supervised a squad of patrol officers until his transfer back to the Investigations Section in 2018.

Sergeant Tona has an undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Brockport in Criminal Justice and a graduate degree in Public Administration from Norwich University. He is presently a board member with the Mid-Atlantic Cold Case Homicide Investigators Association and has professional affiliations with the International Homicide Investigators Association, the International Association for Identification, and the Vidocq Society. Sergeant Tona is also on the faculty at Norwich University and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland Global Campus.
