Bio

Gregory A. Thomas serves as Senior Executive for Law Enforcement Operations in the Kings County (Brooklyn, N.Y.) District Attorney’s Office, the third-largest prosecutor’s office in the nation. In this role, he advises District Attorney Eric Gonzalez on law enforcement policy, oversees the Detective Investigators Squad of more than 80 sworn officers, and acts as a principal liaison to the NYPD and partner agencies. He was instrumental in establishing the office’s Crime Strategies Unit, which uses data-driven methods to reduce violent crime in Brooklyn.

With more than three decades of leadership experience, Thomas has held senior positions across law enforcement, emergency management, and public safety, including with Columbia University’s National Center for Disaster Preparedness, the New York City Department of Education during the September 11th attacks, the New York City Fire Department, the Mollen Commission investigating NYPD corruption, and the NYC Department of Investigation. An internationally recognized expert, he has been featured in major media outlets, testified before Congress, trained federal agencies, and was invited to the White House to advise President Barack Obama and Vice President Joseph Biden on policing best practices.

A past National President of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), Thomas also serves on the Business Advisory Board of the National Policing Institute and the Distinguished Advisory Board of the Center for Public Safety and Justice at the University of Virginia. He is the author and editor of several influential works on school safety and public preparedness, including Freedom from Fear (Random House). Born and raised in Brooklyn, he continues to reside there with his wife and family.
