I am a: Business/Corporation

The law enforcement profession is one of our country’s most critical professions and serves as a vital part of our democracy.

The National Policing Institute aims to bring excellence in policing through science and innovation, establishing best practices, procedures, and suggested policies to ensure safer communities and safer officers.

How can the National Policing Institute’s work impact my business?

The National Policing Institute facilitates and conducts research into a variety of topics related to law enforcement and public safety. NPI is grounded in science and is a completely unbiased advocate for innovation, change, and, in some cases, reform.

Advocating for, creating, and implementing policies, procedures, and changes for effective law enforcement agencies helps create safe communities and uphold citizens’ rights. When people feel safe in their environment, there is a higher chance they will spend more time and money there. NPI works on many projects, including assisting agencies with training and the implementation of best practices to help create these successful environments for their region.

Why is it important for my business to support the mission of creating safer communities?

Public safety impacts all of us. It is vital for a successful business and is the foundation for a thriving community. People who feel safe in an area are more likely to live there, play there, or work there. Without safety measures within a community, the area can fall into high-crime patterns, resulting in a reduction of reliable business. When these areas are safe, businesses are likely to see more consumer spending and a stronger economy. Essentially, safe communities result in better business.

How does the National Policing Institute contribute to safety?

Communities need reliable, well-trained, and well-equipped officers patrolling our communities and building relationships with citizens and businesses. Proper protocol and procedures result in more effective strategies and positive rapport among community members. Research done by NPI, like the Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative and de-escalation techniques, for example, have helped form more productive societies and policing agencies.

Projects rooted in data and research like these allow for educated procedures and policy changes within law enforcement at all levels. These changes then result in respect and positive sentiment from the communities these agencies serve, creating a safer environment for both the community and local law enforcement.

What makes NPI credible?

In 1967, the President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice issued the most comprehensive survey of crime and criminal justice in the nation’s history. Among the commission’s recommendations were higher standards of selection and training of police officers, better management, more effective community relations, and greater coordination of services. To encourage the modernization of policing, in 1970, through a grant from the Ford Foundation, the National Policing Institute (then called the Police Foundation) was established.

Fast forward to today, 53 years later, and the National Policing Institute still serves as the nation’s oldest, independent, non-partisan, and nonprofit research and policy organization dedicated solely to making policing better and communities safer.

How does NPI do its work?

The National Policing Institute has been a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit since 1970. We were named the top law enforcement charity by Impactful Ninja in August 2022, and for the third year in a row, we have been awarded the GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency, the highest transparency rating for nonprofit organizations by GuideStar. Many of our projects are funded through restricted grants from governmental and private sources; however, we rely on annual support from businesses, community organizations, and citizens to respond to the most pressing challenges facing our communities and the policing profession.

How can my business support NPI?

By partnering with us, you can support programs and operations that directly impact the communities and law enforcement agencies surrounding your business. Our team challenges the status quo and encourages agencies to follow suit, improving their operations and putting us on a new path forward. You can help prevent and reduce violence, build trust between law enforcement and communities, and ensure the safety, wellness, and health of communities and police organizations. We encourage you to consider investing in this mission and joining us in making an impact locally and nationally.
